Day and night have various between stages of light and dark. Twilight is the only one that occurs twice, when the sun is below the horizon before sunrise and after sunset. The blue hour occurs during twilight when the sun is quite low and its light gives off a blue hue. This stage of light is favored by photographers and artists alike.

What is it about the silhouette that makes it so strong? That crispness in the foreground of the trees makes the long horizon really powerful.

It could be the rule of thirds. I think we are subconsciously drawn to symmetry and balance (between the foreground, horizon, and sky in this scene). I took several shots, but kept returning to this one to share.
It’s one thing to go with your gut, another to know why your gut feels the way it does.
